Collective Clarity
• Therapy for Filipino & Asian American Millennials•
Hi, I’m Mariel (pronounced Meh-ree-elle).
I help Asian and Filipino American millennials overcome anxiety and generational trauma so they can have healthier relationships with others and themselves.
Navigating mental health as a Filipino American is hard! First off, there is apparently no such thing as anxiety or depression or any mental health issues in many Asian cultures (I’m being sarcastic). Often times, we bear that stigma and keep our problems to ourselves. We end up suffering alone. Then when we finally decide to seek help, we have difficulty finding a therapist. Let alone a therapist that understands our culture. Many do not know what it’s like to have immigrant parents.
When I was younger, it was near impossible to find an Asian or Filipino-American therapist. I've had to explain different aspects of my culture repeatedly before we could dive deep into the real therapeutic work. It was annoying and exhausting! Now, as a psychotherapist, I strive to provide culturally-attuned therapy because feeling 'seen' impacts the effectiveness of treatment.
Seeking therapy is not a sign of weakness. Connect with us if:
You’ve tried dealing with anxiety and relationship or work issues by yourself. But it’s overwhelming and you don’t know where to start.
You’ve heard of self-care and have taken time off work. The vacation was nice but you had a hard time relaxing because you weren’t being productive.
You’ve read countless self-development books, listened to podcast after podcast, and watched all the reels and videos. At this point, you know what you need to do but can’t seem to apply that knowledge in real life.
You’ve checked many accomplishments off your list. In fact, you’re pretty successful yet you still feel like you haven’t done enough.
You find yourself arguing with your partner, co-worker, or even your child. You’re not proud of it but the emotions just come so fast. It’s hard to pause and think rationally.
