PSYCHOTHERAPY

Filipino American 1st-Generation Therapist

Hey there, it's Mariel (pronounced Meh-ree-elle). You're probably here because things are really tough right now. You realized that you can't do this alone anymore. Even if you feel ashamed or embarrassed, I want you to know you're doing the right thing by asking for help. Trust me, I've been there and it can be overwhelming.

When I was younger, it was hard to find an Asian or Filipino American therapist who understood what it was like to have immigrant parents. I've had to explain different aspects of my culture repeatedly before we could dive into the juicy therapeutic work. It was annoying and discouraging! Now, as a psychotherapist & coach, I strive to provide culturally-competent services because finding a therapist (who understands) shouldn’t be this hard.

Feeling seen impacts the effectiveness of treatment

I help Asian and Filipino Americans with immigrant parents break generational cycles of toxic behaviors.

When you aren't used to talking about your feelings, you want someone to take the time to listen attentively. Sometimes you want tangible skills to practice at home while we explore why you do the things you do. There will be times when you don't want to do the work because it’s draining. You'll need a therapist to call you out and help you work through the avoidance. You're sooo ready to make lasting changes but have no idea where to start. You've found the right place! We welcome folks from the LGBTQ+ community and Chronic/Invisible Illness community!
